  • Spurgeon, Cooke, Brubaker- Read This and Order THE HUNTER

    you must get it

One of the best Comics’ Reporter discussions yet, focusing on Darwyn Cooke’s adaptation of the first Westlake Parker book. We need more books like this, I’m ordering extra to give to people who aren’t comics readers. A fun talk about the prowess of Donald Westlake and how Darwyn approached the book, and Bru talks about how he and Sean Phillips did Criminal too. And then oddly Scott Dunbier appears near the end like a ghost to make a couple of comments. It’s a good long read.

Thanks for the link Jeff, hadn’t seen this interview. If for nothing else, it’s worth the read to hear Cooke’s personal insights of Westlake. That’s great.

I’m really looking forward to this book as well, and I’m likewise going to lend it out to folks who may not usually dig comics.

I added that “Hunter” GN the minute I saw it in the Previews catalog. Great interview and back-and-forth between Cooke and Brubaker. And I second all the sentiments about “Criminal.” What a great book!

(Your stuff is terrific as well, Jeff. I foisted the first two “Exiles” issues on a friend, who now loves the book!)

Re: Bru and Phillips…I really like Incognito, it’s one of my favourite books each month, but it’s nowhere near Criminal yet in terms of quality! I really hope it makes a comeback sooner rather than later/never.
