  • RIP, Forry

    forre get-me-not!

Okay, Lieber said I couldn’t mention my long-standing complaint that the Captain Company never sent me the 12 bucks worth of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazines and posters I ordered when I was a kid, but I never really blamed Forrest Ackerman for that. Forry passed away yesterday at the age of 92. I got to meet him when I was at the Harris Publications booth a few years ago after I’d written and drawn a Vampirella story. I always regretted that I never visited the Ackermansion in its heyday, but I enjoyed his influence in all things horror/sci-fi/comics for years.

Whenever someone dressed as Dracula makes a horror-related pun, Forry gets yet another set of wings. To 4SJ!

Aw, man. That’s too bad. Why can’t good folks live forever? Even 92 years (!) is too short a time for someone who did as much as he did for Horrorwood. By all accounts, a simply wonderful gent who wasn’t even bitter about all the douchebags who ripped off stuff from his house.

i was fortunate to meet Forry back in 2000 when Stan was showing him around StanLee Media, he was wearing his Dracula and Mummy rings, the originals worn in the classic Universal movies, those were a blast to see in person, he was a very kind man and i got my chance to tell him how much i enjoyed Famous Monsters growing up as a kid, i wish i had gone to the mansion, but i’m content having had the opportunity to meet the man! RIP
