  • Bless That Blessed…

“And it [the set] was full of dwarfs and all kinds of people. I love dwarfs. They’re the happiest people in the world. And I loved to chase them around the set and stuff like that. So the whole thing was colossal fun.”

From the George Khoury piece on the 1980 Flash Gordon movie at CBR this week.

Ha! Just a day ago I was listening to the FLASH GORDON soundtrack and thinking, “Could there be a more perfect Vultan than Brian Blessed?”

If you can find it online, I highly recommend Brian Blessed’s appearance on “The Ryan Tubridy Show.”(Irish talk-show)

He co-opts the show in it’s entirety! To paraphrase another classic show he appeared in, namely Blackadder; He got to where he is, not by hard work, and careful planning…..but BY SHOUTING!

If I had several million dollars, I’d make a movie about a banished and aging Thor in a seaside retirement village in Norway, raising hell and SHOUTING. And it would star Brian Blessed.

A banished and aging Thor reminds me of the Douglas Adams book “Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul.”

I can’t think of Brian Blessed without thinking about the story Ricky Gervais told on the radio about Blessed’s attempted climbing of Everest.

I think I have an idea for Jesse’s halloween costume.
