  • Parker-Tobin Team Up!

Over at Newsarama, Paul Tobin and I talk to Benjamin Ong Pang Kean about our upcoming WHAT IF that revisits the Jim Owsley Spider-Man Vs. Wolverine story. This turned out pretty sweet, especially thanks to Clayton Henry going off like a monster on the art. Watch the unlikely duo get all spy film. I meant Spidey and Wolverine, not me and Paul.

Remember North Carolinians, I’m at Chapel Hill Comics tomorrow…

Looks like a good story! I have a couple of questions, if you have the time…

    1. I was 5 at the time the original story was published, and on top of that, I hated Spider-Man. Are they re-issuing the Owsley-Priest issue?

    2. How do you, as a writer, go about walking that fine line between pleasing continuitists and the reader like myself who has no idea who Ned Leeds was, but will still pick up this book? Maybe the question should be: How do you address the necessary exposition and still have room to tell your story?

You really don’t need the original issue, our mad recappin’ skillz are so honed. But they might, they so love printing things that cost them nothing.

I used my completely-forgot-who-Ned-Leeds-was ability when approaching this. That part wasn’t as necessary to our story as the fact that Spidey got tricked into killing a woman, and we show the readers that.

The name “Ned Leeds” is now sticking in a loop in my head, alternating with Led Needs.
