  • Word Vs. Google

I was going to write a nice fun post about something else, but now I’m preoccupied with the fact that I can’t send Word documents to anyone with a Gmail account. They get a “Noname” attachment they can do nothing with. The hell is the deal here? Is there some way I can make things Google-safe? This is really annoying, since I generally write all my scripts in Word.

UPDATE: Google admits The Bad, are apparently working on it.

In the meantime, you might consider sending your Word files as zipped attachments. The recipient will have to unzip them, but it might get around whatever weirdness is causing gmail to mess up Word documents.

You might try saving them as Rich Text Format, which preserves some formatting (though if you depend on a style sheet for your scripting, that may not survive.) Compressing them sounds like the best workaround.
