“Flash” Gordon?

Hey, this ain’t cool! Did someone at SciFi Network just google “Flash” when designing the new show logo and find the DC character? Or like those people who don’t know comics and always think The Invisible Man is a superhero, assume Flash and Flash Gordon are the same thing? For the record, Alex Raymond’s Flash Gordon never had a lightning bolt, and even the movie only gave him a slight one- not a three-parter in a circle like the guy who runs really fast.
I pronounce this… LAME! Though I do hope the show is good. But do away with that logo, which also uses the crappy font that NASA finally abandoned in favor of their cool original logo.

Just be thankful Sci-Fi didn’t remake “Flesh Gordon” and use a different sort of icon in that “O”….

At Comic-Con, I was approached by a couple guys from the Sci Fi Channel to sing Queen’s “FLASH! AAHH-HHH!” into a camera for a scifi.com promo.
It was really hard, because there was no music. That said, I did get a standing ovation…when I finished.
Keep checking scifi.com to see if my footage made it into the final cut!

[...] Jeff Parker finds something awfully familiar about the log for the Sci Fi Channel’s new Flash Gordon TV series: Did someone at SciFi Network just google “Flash” when designing the new show logo and find the DC character? Or like those people who don’t know comics and always think The Invisible Man is a superhero, assume Flash and Flash Gordon are the same thing? The lightning bolt is also in the logo of the 1980 movie:

That’s a bolt through a planet though(and now it seems to be Alex Ross’ logo!), and this is exactly the Flash’s logo. Someone in 1980 was probably watching out for that.
Those little lizard guys with the face inside the mouths are still creeping me out almost 30 years later.

I’m a little sad to know what joke you’ve heard that brought the Invisible Man to mind.

I just talked to my TV critic friend … whose cubicle sits right next to mine … and he said the first episode is terrible!

three things you need to know.1. Flash gordon is way older than the flash, he had the symbol first. It was in the serials.
2. If you look close you will notice the symbols are different. The Flash’s symbol is a mirror image of Flash Gordons original symbol.
3. The Flash and Flash Gordon are both properties of DC comics
As a FLASH GORDON (and a sci-fi) fan i love the new one

I’ve seen the serials, Flash Gordon did not have a lightning bolt in a circle. I know he’s older than the Flash. DC Comics does not own Flash Gordon, King Features does.
But I do hope the show is good. I’m a Flash Gordon/Alex Raymond/Al Williamson fan from forever, and I want the character to live on.

Which logo, the TV show or the movie? The movie is a drawn logo, the tv show I’ve seen around but I can’t remember names I’ve seen it as. It’s a variation of the NASA letters from the 70′s, some fontographer probably called it “Nasa.”
