    TIME TRAVEL

  • What’s Done is Done.

Comicon is gone. It will not come again for another cycle. You will not have to press through walls of unseemly flesh until then. Whew.

My big change was to not set up at a table, and just do my meetings and signings as a free-wheeling, happy-go-lucky loose cannon. But now every day is Saturday as far as crowd levels go, so I was somewhat thwarted in that way. Still, I talked to a lot of people I wanted to if not everybody. I got to see Bo Hampton’s family again for the first time in years, as well as Chuck Wojtkiewicz and wife. And I did see some cool things, like the Iron Man early armor. The display that stopped me hardest though, was for the Golden Compass movie. Once I saw that huge polar bear in armor, I mowed down some fanboys to get over there. And the footage from the film looked dead on perfect- click on the Comicon Preview trailer. Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel and Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter are about as right as it gets. I hope it does well and that writer Philip Pullman is currently trying to figure out how to stop tripping over bags of money all around his house.

I zipped out of the building around 3 and was off to the airport. At the Alaska Airlines counter I was behind Gary Groth who was trying to upgrade his seat, and ran into Douglas Wolk, who as a Portland resident was on my flight. And that was a nice reminder that Steve Lieber and I are appearing on a panel with him Wednesday night at Powell’s Books. Remind me to remind you of that tomorrow.

Choosing to do the show as a weekend was THE RIGHT THING TO DO. For me. I’m not wiped out, already back at work and everything. Less pain. Maybe next year I can get my business done outside without ever even entering the building, if I play it right.

So you were thereafter all! I would have said hello, but I didn’t see you on the program and so figured you weren’t there. And passing by Steve Lieber’s table just made my cry about Morning Dragons. Why no Morning Dragons, why? Waaaahhhhh…

    See? Undignified.
